CARILAW: Caribbean Law Online
Andornot has been working with Velma Newton, the law librarian at the
University of the West Indies in Barbados, to put up the CariLaw website which
includes a database of Commonwealth Caribbean primary legal materials. Access
to the cases and treaties in the database is by subscription, but a
sample database has been developed as a demo for potential subscribers
with access via a search page and a
listing by jurisdiction using canned searches.
The documents were originally created in MS Word, each with extensive
controlled vocabulary indexing and these were imported into DB/TextWorks using
the new Import Filters. A transformation application that works within
DB/TextWorks was developed by Andornot to then move the controlled indexing
into the appropriate database fields.
Andornot has been able to undertake all the design plus installation of our
subscriber authentication system
remotely, thus minimizing costs to the client for travel.
