Archives Online
Archives Online is an add-on to Inmagic DB/TextWorks for archival accessions
and descriptions. It was originally developed in 1995 by the City of Richmond
Archives, and has been since enhanced and expanded by Andornot. Archives
Online uses the latest features of DB/TextWorks to deliver a professional
new look, intuitive ease of use, and extensive help resources including
on-screen help and complete sample databases. Mono-hierarchical thesauri for
subject and name access points now come standard.
Archives Online is designed to allow quick and easy creation of databases for
archival descriptions and accessions specially suited to small- and
medium-sized archives where archivists and volunteers, rather than full-time
computer experts, are responsible for automation. Archives Online is designed
to comply with the following archival standards:
-
Canadian Rules for Archival Description (RAD)
-
International Standard for Archival Description (ISAD)
The Archives Online databases can be adopted as is or can be easily customized
for specific needs.
For each database, Archives Online provides:
-
Complete data structures
-
Detailed instructions for entering the contents of each field
-
Search screens
-
Edit, display and printable report forms
-
Pre-configured validation and substitution lists for appropriate fields
Archival material can be arranged and described using either RAD or ISAD(G).
Descriptions of non-archival material (e.g. reference files, pamphlet files,
etc.) are also easily managed.
