OneSearch
Would you like to search multiple Inmagic textbases at once?
and show each set of results separately...
If you have developed more than one Inmagic textbase we’ll bet that
at some point you have wished you could easily search several textbases
at once. Andornot’s OneSearch add-on is a fast and easy multiple textbase
search for use with Inmagic DB/Text or CS WebPublisher PRO software.
It is fast because it only needs to get the result count for each textbase
before providing a "View Results" link.
It is easy because it does not require field mapping or form design or
indeed any access to the textbase at all, and textbases can belong to
completely different websites.
How does it work?
If you know some HTML and can build a canned query, you can set-up OneSearch.
To help you out Andornot provides a Search Cannery Wizard on our website
for those not familiar with the canned search syntax.
The result display can be customized with logos (one for each textbase)
and the text changed to suit your needs. By default the textbase name
and the number of search results are displayed with a hyperlink to the
results in the original textbase interface.
Are there any limits on the textbases you can search?
Any Inmagic textbase that can be publicly accessed can be included if
it is running recent versions of the software. So for example
it is easy to build searches based on subject area or organization type.
We have
set up a OneSearch demo on our website showing how it could
be used to search across several publicly available health related library
catalogs
simultaneously.
These textbases are on different sites and different webservers. Of course you can also use OneSearch to search across all your own textbases on an intranet.
How is OneSearch different from Inmagic multiple textbase
searching?
- OneSearch is flexible. Any public textbase can be searched not
just your own (permission should be asked first).
- You
don’t need to define a lead textbase or create any field mapping
which is often tricky when dealing with dissimilar textbases.
- Users
receive an immediate display of the number of hits in
each textbase instead of scrolling through the results
from one after the other. This is especially significant if large sets might
be retrieved
for each textbase.
- You don’t need to set up compatible forms in
each textbase. Each set of results opens in a new window with its own
report
forms.
Think of the possibilities...
As OneSearch is based on canned queries you could create a MyLibrary
type application allowing users to search by name for
their:
- Active Loans
- Items on order
- Serial routing lists
- Reference requests etc.
Even if you don’t want to make this available to your end users,
it could be very useful for library staff to get a profile of an individual
borrower.

Worried about implementation?
Andornot can take care of all installation and implementation for you
on a consulting basis.
If you wish to handle this yourself, we recommend:
- a good understanding
of webservers and IIS, or assistance from IT staff for
the installation (usually less than 1
hour).
- good HTML skills to add and modify the provided
code to insert your values.
How much does OneSearch cost?
OneSearch is priced from $1,500. This includes one hour for assistance,
usually via Webex.
