Inmagic DB/TextWorks v12 released

Inmagic has announced the release of DB/TextWorks version 12.

New and enhanced features include:

Improvements to batch modify, validation lists, and import functionality:

• Batch modify to change more than one field at a time.
• Batch modify field-to-field: Copy or move the contents of one field to another.
• Update records to match validation list changes: When terms on a validation list are changed or deleted, corresponding changes can be made in affected textbase records.
• Option to update multiple matching records when importing.

Enhanced search capabilities:

• Thesaurus expansion when searching: Optional retrieval of preferred and related terms when searching fields connected to a thesaurus.

Enhanced E-mail options:

• E-mail reports in HTML: Send Report as Mail now supports HTML format in the e-mail body.
• E-mail reports grouped by recipient: E-mail reports sent to recipients identified in textbase records can optionally have all messages to a given recipient grouped into one e-mail message.

Advanced imaging. Capabilities support newer image formats, with:

• Support for the latest version of PDF formats from Adobe® Acrobat® when treating the PDF file as an image field.

All clients with a current Inmagic maintenance subscription for DB/TextWorks should shortly receive an email from Inmagic with the download information for this new version. No date has yet been announced for the release of CS/TextWorks v12.   If you have a current subscription but have not received a notification email in the next week or so, please email advantage@inmagic.com with your serial number and email address so it can be resent.  Please also remember to let us know if your contact information has changed so we can update our records and pass this on to Inmagic.

Inmagic at SLA conference

Unfortunately this year Andornot will not be exhibiting at the SLA Conference which starts this weekend in Washington, DC.  However we do encourage you to stop by the Inmagic booth (#1151) to discuss or see demonstrations of the latest versions of Inmagic products. 

Inmagic is sponsoring the SLA Knowledge Management Division reception on Sunday June 14th, and Inmagic clients are invited to the Inmagic customer reception on Tuesday, June 16th.

From Coast to Coast: Andornot at CALL & CHLA conferences

2 conferences; 2 user group meetings; 4 provinces; 6 client visits in 10 days! 

Kathy and Denise are now back from a trip across Canada to the CALL conference in Halifax and then the CHLA conference in Winnipeg.  It's always great to connect with so many clients and hear stories about how they are using Inmagic software and their ideas for future projects.  It was also an excellent reminder for us that there is no such thing as a typical client as we met in beautifully appointed law firm boardrooms, small hospitals and tiny archives.  Travelling is always an enlightening experience, especially as we were able to visit bustling, dynamic cities and sleepy backwaters, and see a huge variety of countryside as we drove around Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. We do much of our work remotely, so it was wonderful to be able to finally meet some of our Manitoba clients face to face for the first time.

We would like to thank everyone who visited our booth, hosted us or attended one of our sessions!

West Vancouver Archives launches web search interface

The West Vancouver Archives has been a long time user of Inmagic software and Archives On  line. A new searchable interface to their descriptions database is now available from the District of West Vancouver website at http://archives.westvancouver.ca/. 

This interface was developed by Andornot using Inmagic WebPublisher PRO and Andornot’s Archival Starter Kit as a basis.  A neat feature is the addition of links to biographical or administrative history data which is maintained in a separate textbase.  To see examples of these, search on Cypress Park Primary School or Rupert Harris on and click on the Creator link in the full record display. 

Over a thousand images have been scanned. Searches can be restricted to just these records by checking the box to limit to electronic items only on the Advanced search screen.

The archivist, Shaunna Moore gave us some great feedback:

Burnaby Art Gallery: Collection Management and Art Rental Systems

Andornot recently completed two projects for the Burnaby Art Gallery in Burnaby, British Columbia: one for the gallery's main collection and one for their art rental and sales program.

Collection Management System

The gallery's main collection is largely made up of works on paper by Canadian artists. Special consideration is given to the acquisition of multiples (e.g. original prints) and of works distinctly relevant to the citizens of Burnaby.

This collection was previously managed in a legacy database application only available to gallery staff. The gallery consulted with Andornot to replace the legacy system with TextWorks and to make the collection available on the web for public searching. The results of the project can be seen in the searchable database available on the gallery's website.

Notable features of the web portion of the project include:

• Alphabetical lists of artists included in the collection, for easy browsing.
• Quick links to artworks by popular artists and on popular topics (created using the Andornot Search Cannery).
• Thumbnail images of the artworks in the search results when available, with the ability to expand to a full-size image. This feature was enabled with the Andornot Image Handler with the benefit that administrators need only create a single image, and the Image Handler dynamically generates thumbnails as needed.

The desktop portion of the project provides a TextWorks interface for managing artworks, artists and exhibits and includes detailed fields for tracking conservation history.

Art Rental and Sales System

The gallery's popular art rental program provides individuals and organizations with access to contemporary works of art at very reasonable rates. The gallery was previously using two legacy applications to manage the artworks available in the program and the financial aspects of rentals and sales.

With a successful implementation of CS/TextWorks for the gallery's main collection complete, it was a natural extension to investigate using TextWorks for art rental management as well.

Darrin Martens, curator of the gallery, explains: "We wanted to make more use of the Inmagic software we already use to manage our collection and retire two older applications that weren't meeting our needs. The TextWorks databases that Andornot created are terrific and save us a great deal of time each month in managing art rentals."

Andornot's solution supports the management of artworks, artists, and clients, processing of rental and sale transactions, monthly and quarterly billing, and generation of annual client and artist statements. All functions and information related to the art rental program are now available in one set of linked databases, accessible to the staff who need it.

Inmagic Appoints Ron Matros as President and Chief Executive Officer

Inmagic today announced the appointment of a new President and CEO. In his new role, Matros will lead all key facets of the business, including engineering, services, finance, sales, marketing, and new business development. He also joins Inmagic's Board of Directors.

Both meetings will include discussions of the latest versions of all Inmagic products plus a review of version of 11 of TextWorks and WebPublisher PRO, and Genie version 3.3. Kathy Bryce and Denise Bonin from Andornot  will demonstrate the new Undo feature in the Form Designer, Query Logging, and other enhancements that you can make to your web or Genie interfaces.  We may even be able to provide a sneak peek of DB/TextWorks version 12 which is due for release by the end of June.
