Andornot Starter Kit (ASK)
Andornot developed a standard interface for publishing Inmagic
textbases on the web when we began working with WebPublisher
PRO more than 10 years ago. We have continued to modify and
improve the Andornot Starter Kit and now use it as a showcase for
new enhancements to the underlying Inmagic software.
We use this simple yet elegant design to start most of our
projects, whether it be for a hosted textbase or for a custom
implementation. The Andornot Starter Kit includes a sample
textbase featuring ready to use query screens and forms,
including:
- Quick and advanced search screens with searching tips
- Google style search syntax with automatic ANDing and stemming
of terms
- Pop-up windows with find as you type for browsing term and word
indices
- Sample canned searches that can be modified to create
hyperlinks for Popular Topics
- ASP.NET master pages for a consistent template
- CSS (cascading style sheet) file to control fonts and colors
etc.
- Andornot results control to specify where the search results
are displayed
- Search results with improved navigation links. For
example:
- Next and previous links, revise search, new search
- Form selection using relevant terms not just the actual form
name
- Back to search results from the full record
- Automatically shorten long URLs, and make live URL links within
a text field
- Custom error messages
- Google Book Covers and Previews
- AddThis and PermaLinks
Selection List or Cart
The Starter Kit can be implemented with or without the option to
select records. Users can then:
- email selections to themselves and others
- print selections from the browser in a choice of layouts
- download selections from the browser in a choice of text
formats
- request or order items
The download and print options offer a choice of formats based
on DB/TextWorks forms. These can therefore include Inmagic tagged
format, EndNote, various citation styles, Excel-style CSV, generic
delimited text, etc.
The option to request or order items can for example, send an
email to a library to ask to borrow items, or to an archive to
order reprints of photographs. It can also be tied into an
e-commerce site for payment processing.
The kit also contains:
- detailed, commented code to help you make modifications.
- documentation overview
The ASK template can be used as is with your logo, or customized
to match an existing website, or integated into other environments,
including SharePoint. Not only do you get great looking
web forms, the Andornot Starter Kit also contains a snazzy desktop
interface with forms for search, display and editing including
script buttons for improved navigation.

We usually sell the Andornot Starter Kit to clients with
additional consulting services or use it as a starting point if
extra customization or features are required. Once a client has
purchased ASK, updates can be supplied free of charge if requested.
However sometimes it may not be possible to simply plug in the
latest version due to customizations or changes in both the
underlying Inmagic software and the Starter Kit.
